For others, not so much.EDTShareTweetShareShareRavens 2019 Draft: Winners and losers from Day 2 Matt Cashore-USA TODAY SportsThe Ravens did a fairly good job positioning themselves for future success on Friday night. Despite holding zero second-round picks, Baltimore stayed the course and maneuvered effectively to address one of their biggest needs and further reinforce another one. With the 85th pick, the Ravens landed the FBS’ all-time sack leader, Jaylon Ferguson. Then, they traded up nine spots to select Miles Boykin, an athletic receiver from Notre Dame with a solid skill set and good upside. With Ferguson and Boykin heading to Baltimore, what does it mean in the big-picture? Winner: Matthew Judon For several weeks now the talk has been about replacing Za’Darius Smith and Terrell Suggs on defense, which the Ravens finally took a crack at in selecting Jaylon Ferguson in the third round. What the addition of Ferguson also does, in addition to adding much-needed talent on the edge Justin Tucker Jersey Sale , is take pressure off of Matthew Judon, the only established edge rusher on the roster prior to last night. Ferguson’s presence will make it harder for teams to key in on Judon and make other players beat them, like Tyus Bowser and Tim Williams. If they try this strategy, Ferguson is more than capable of making them pay.Loser: Jordan Lasley & Jaleel ScottI hate to repeat myself here, but if Jordan Lasley and Jaleel Scott came out as losers from the selection of Marquise Brown, they’re even bigger losers after Day 2. The Ravens decision to trade up for Miles Boykin is a show of little confidence in their current receivers on the roster, which include both Lasley and Scott. It’s hard to see a scenario in which both of them make the roster given there’s now five roster locks at the position. Frankly, it wouldn’t be surprising to see neither of them on the team next year. If so, it’ll mark a short but disappointing tenure in Baltimore. I just don’t see DeCosta using two of the team’s first three picks on wideouts if he truly believes either Lasley or Scott factor into Baltimore’s long-term plans. Winner: The interior offensive line guys The talk of the town heading into the draft was, in addition to edge rusher and wide receiver Replica Justin Tucker Jersey , the Ravens need for offensive line help at center and guard. However, three rounds have passed and the team has yet to address either position. This shows they think at least somewhat highly of the current players on the roster, which include Matt Skura, James Hurst, Alex Lewis, and Bradley Bozeman. Baltimore opted to double dip at WR before getting an offensive lineman, which suggests they don’t feel as though an immediate plug-and-play starter is necessary. Loser: “Best player available” The Ravens had a plethora of options to choose from with both of their third-round picks. While Ferguson and Boykin represented great value at their respective slots, they weren’t necessarily the top-rated prospects available on the board. With players like Hakeem Butler and Chauncey Garnder-Johnson available, whom many considered first-round talents, it would have been easy for Baltimore to pounce on a sliding prospect like these two Stitched Justin Tucker Jersey , or even someone like Mack Wilson or Riley Ridley. However, they opted for personal preference, positional need, and scheme fit over the “best player available” mantra and still came away with two good prospects at a great spot. Winner: ReunionsEach of the Ravens first three picks are joining former college teammates in Baltimore. Marquise Brown, who went to Oklahoma, played with Orlando Brown Jr. and Mark Andrews in college. Jaylon Ferguson and Kenneth Dixon played together at Louisiana Tech in 2015, when Dixon was a senior and Ferguson was a freshman. There’s also Miles Boykin, who joins former collegiate teammate Ronnie Stanley. The two were at Notre Dame together in 2015, too, although Boykin didn’t play his freshman year. Already having familiarity and close relationships with players on the team will help Brown Baby Justin Tucker Jersey , Ferguson and Boykin adjust to their new surroundings and hopefully make for a more seamless transition. Winner: NicknamesQuick little side note here. Has there ever been an incoming rookie class in NFL history with two players possessing better nicknames than “hollywood” and “sack daddy”? You’d be hard-pressed to find one. In fact, those might be two of the best nicknames in the entire league already. Shoutout Gus Johnson and whoever gave Ferguson that unique label. EDTShareTweetShareShareGuard Zane Beadles set to retire after spending final season with Falcons Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY SportsIt seems that the Falcons will not be re-signing guard Zane Beadles. Well Stitched Julio Jones Jersey , nobody will be re-signing Beadles. On Monday, he announced he will retire after nine years in the league. The news isn’t going to affect the Falcons in any major, major way, especially after the team selected Chris Lindstrom with the No. 14 overall pick and brought in Jamon Brown and James Carpenter in free agency. For the league, it’s a farewell to one of the better guards of the early decade who just couldn’t ever quite live up to the burden placed on earning a major contract extension. Beadles was a mauler in Denver and helped those early Peyton Manning/Broncos offenses find their potency. He left for a major windfall in Jacksonville soon after that, but took on journeyman status when the cap hit didn’t meet on-field production. In Atlanta, he did a decent job filling in at tackle and guard later in the season when the team chose to tinker with its OL. Him returning wouldn’t have been a surprise or an issue, which would also have applied to him not returning. He was a good depth guy who could start and play decently when you needed him, and y’know, there’s value in a player like that. Football is only a small part of the grander scheme, so we wish Beadles all the best as he pursues a new mode in life. He was a pretty good Falcon when the team needed him last fall, so we tip our hat and send him off with good salutations for the future. 1. I hate strength of schedule arguments, partly because of the contradiction. Let me explain. In my work with advanced stats — the S&P+ ratings and so forth — I field certain insults frequently. Here are two of the most common:“Watch the games, nerd!” The insinuation: if you’d get your nose out of the spreadsheets, dork, you’d see that Team A is better than Team B.“Team A ain’t played nobody!” The insinuation: How could Team A be any good when they haven’t played a team that clears someone’s arbitrary bar of goodness? “You saw what happened in the games I watched, right?” the first one says. The second says to watch one particular game and ignore the others.2. Football’s going to have a sample size issue no matter what, so we should milk meaning out of every game. Arguing about strength of schedule the wrong way means limiting the sample even further and acting like we can’t learn from every play of every game.We can. Honest.Strength of schedule is at the heart of virtually every argument between October and January. Hell, it’s a point of debate for every college sport. The schedules are too varied and not comprehensive enough. At the pro level, there are strong and weak divisions, but schedules are infinitely more balanced. In the MLB, everybody plays everybody in their league at least a few times Baby Julio Jones Jersey , with some cross-league games. In the NBA and NHL, everybody plays everybody at least once. With 130 FBS teams and 12 games, that isn’t an option for college football. So we play who we play, and we yell about whom our rivals ain’t played.3. Strength of schedule determines the national champion, sort of.College football’s national title is more directly affected by strength of schedule than that of any other major sport. It’s baked into the Playoff selection process. It is decreed that the committee takes strength of schedule into account, but it doesn’t say how. It frowns on advanced analytics and gives no alternative guidance. So the committee goes with things like “wins over top-25 teams” and “assuring there’s no way in hell a team from a Group of 5 conference will get in.” 4. By now, though, some are figuring out how strength of schedule is taken into account.ESPN’s stats team has created both forward- and backward-looking measures to assess the difference between the “best” teams and those determined most deserving of a title shot. As it turns out, the Strength of Record backward view — or judging your team by whom you’ve beaten, not by how good you are — is effective at mirroring committee action. The committee insists it is looking for the “best” team. It is not. Kirby Hocutt, former chairman of the CFP committee, conflated “best” and “most deserving” on a number of occasions. An example:They do not. And that’s fine, I guess.5. Two major problems: a one-point win is not a 24-point win, and you don’t have to wait ‘til someone plays a good team to start learning.Take these two old articles as an example. Here I am in Oct. 2013, writing about how that year’s Florida State had long been elite, despite a weaker schedule. Here I am a year later writing the opposite, about how 2014 FSU was probably doomed despite wins over good teams. The 2013 team that hadn’t played nobody, but that was destroying its opponents, won the national title. The 2014 team that was winning, but not impressing the numbers, eked out a Playoff bid and got embarrassed. (To its credit, the CFP committee did dock FSU a bit for its lackluster performance.)These two FSU teams are examples for this simple truism:6. You can learn something from every game Best Julio Jones Jersey , if you try. That’s the point of using advanced stats, be it S&P+ or any other. You set the baseline depending on the opponent(s), and you compare actual output to that adjusted expectation. It fills in what your eyes are missing. (And with 800-plus college football games in a season, your eyes are always missing something.)Your record does matter. Even as an advanced stats loyalist, I’m not going to call for a three-loss team to get a CFP spot, even if said team was unlucky in every loss and ranks first in S&P+. Wins and losses aren’t particularly predictive in and of themselves, but they have to mean something. The best team shouldn’t get in, if it’s not high on the most-deserving list.7. So what if we tried to combine the two? What if we used a “best” measure to approximate what “most deserving” means? What if we took the Strength of Record idea and added an extra level of team quality? Let’s reintroduce R茅sum茅 S&P+, which made its debut here in 2017.Below are each FBS team’s rankings in three categories:S&P+, an overall team efficiency rating system you can read more about here. It can be used to predict wins and losses going forward.Strength of Schedule (SOS), which amounts to how well the average top-five team (according to S&P+) would fare, in terms of win percentage, against your schedule. The lower the number, the harder the schedule. Why top-five? Because we’re using the Playoff’s four-team field as a target, and usually only about five teams have solid playoff cases.R茅sum茅 S&P+, which looks at a team’s season scoring margin* and compares it to what the average top-five team’s scoring margin would’ve likely been against that schedule. If the number is positive, that team is faring better then the typical top-five team would be. Instead of advanced stats or win probability info, I’m adhering to actual margins.* While I think we care far too much about scoring margins, I still install a cap — if either a team’s scoring margin or the top-five projected scoring margin is above 50 points, we’ll simply use 50. That creates plenty of space for dominance, but it assures that, for instance Adult Julio Jones Jersey , Fresno State doesn’t get too much credit for beating Idaho by 66 points.8. With 10 weeks’ worth of 2018 data, let’s check out what R茅sum茅 S&P+ can tell us. Let’s look at Alabama, the top team in both S&P+ and the AP poll, as an example.Alabama is an easy 10-0 so far, having won its games by an average margin of 35.9 points (35.4 with a 50-point cap on each game). Have the Crimson Tide played a rigorous schedule? Not really. If the average top-five team — by which, I mean literally the average of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, and Oklahoma, the top five teams per S&P+ — played Alabama’s 10 opponents a countless number of times, it would have won about 89 percent of those games. That’s a strength of schedule that ranks 45th — not amazing but almost harder than that of any of the other unbeatens.SOS rankings for college football’s unbeaten teams:45. Alabama (0.887)59. Notre Dame (0.900)83. Clemson (0.920)104. UCF (0.940)Three months into the season, nobody’s played anybody, I guess. Or at least, the teams that have, have lost. The teams ranked in the top 16 in strength of schedule are a combined 81-79. Of those teams, only LSU (8-2) and Penn State (7-3) are better than 6-4.Regardless, Bama continues to have done more with its ain’t-played-nobody schedule than anyone else. Even with the 50-point cap, the Crimson Tide have still defeated their opponents by an average scoring margin that is 12.6 points per game higher than the nameless, faceless top-fiver would expect.9. Here are R茅sum茅 S&P+ and strength of schedule ratings for everyone.(This is a wide table, because it has to be; if it’s not showing well on your phone, consider taking a look on another device later.)2018 Resume S&P+ rankings through 11 weeksTeamRecS&P+RkSOSRkResume S&P+RkTeamRecS&P+RkSOSRkResume S&P+RkBecause both Alabama and Clemson have separated themselves from the pack a bit Limited Calvin Ridley Jersey , the bar for what constitutes a top-five team is pretty high, and only three teams clear it: Alabama (plus-12.6 points per game), Clemson (plus-4.2), and Michigan (plus-1.1). Georgia (minus-1.6) and Oklahoma (minus-5.3) round out the R茅sum茅 S&P+ top five. The No. 6 team is kind of interesting. West Virginia ranks a solid 12th in overall S&P+, having fully rebounded from the humbling loss to Iowa State. When the Mountaineers look good, they look great — they beat Kansas State by 29, Baylor by 42, and, this past weekend, TCU by 37. They’ve also survived tough road trips to Texas Tech and Texas.Add that up, and you’ve got an increasingly impressive r茅sum茅. (The loss to Iowa State doesn’t exactly look embarrassing either.) The dominance of TCU drove the Mountaineers to within 2.1 points per game of Oklahoma in R茅sum茅 S&P+. They’re also only one spot behind the Sooners in the AP rankings. There’s a little more separation in the College Football Playoff rankings (they were ninth last week, while OU was sixth), but maybe there shouldn’t be.The general impression seems to be that OU is in great shape for a CFP bid if it wins out. (The Sooners could be considered the first runner-up at the moment assuming Alabama beats Georgia.) But a 12-1 West Virginia could have an equally strong r茅sum茅 and should probably be getting a bit more respect from the committee than it has so far. Maybe that changes this week.9. To those who want to moan about incentivizing running up the score in this measure (since we’re using scoring margins), suck it up.Margin of victory is infinitely more informative than “did they win?” It just is. Besides, it’s odd to suddenly care about hurt feelings when I’m pretty sure telling half of FBS they don’t have a shot at the national title, no matter how well they play, is more hurtful to those feelings than winning 49-0 instead of 38-0.10. Best versus most deserving. How you’ve played versus who you’ve played.Maybe there’s a way to tie together these worlds after all.
17 NFL Draft Elite Chandler Jones Jersey , Grambling WR and 2nd Team FCS All-American, Chad Williams, turned heads by running a blistering 4.36 at his pro day. This followed a..."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Podcasts The Revenge of the Birds podcastChad Williams on WR Bubble New,22comments Chad Williams on WR Bubble Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsPrior to being selected in the 3rd round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Grambling WR and 2nd Team FCS All-American, Chad Williams, turned heads by running a blistering 4.36 at his pro day. This followed a strong performance at the 2017 Senior Bowl, which caught the attention of the Rams’ then new head coach, Sean McVay, who welcomed Williams to LA for a pre-draft visit. The major red flag on Williams was his arrest in 2016 while sitting in a car at LSU that contained a jar of marijuana, a loaded Desert Eagle handgun and an unloaded AK-46 assault rifle, plus a 20 round magazine. Grambling suspended him for the first game of the 2016 season Game Chandler Jones Jersey , but after that, Williams improved on his 64/1,012/10 TD 2015 campaign by posting a 90/1,337/11 TD 1st team All-SWAC performance. During the 3rd round the rumor was that the Cardinals were hoping to select WR Cooper Kupp (Eastern Washington) or LB Duke Riley (LSU), but the Rams and Falcons beat them to it. Thus, having already traded picks to move up in the 2nd round to take S Budda Baker (Washington), the Cardinals decided to trade their #77 pick to the Panthers (who took DE Daeshon Hall (Texas A&M) for the Panthers’ #98 (WR Chad Williams, Grambling) and 115th (G Dorian Johnson, Pittsburgh) picks. Thus far, that Panthers/Cardinals trade appears to be an ill-fated one as Daeshon Hall injured his knee in the first game of the 2017 season, was cut by the Panthers in 2018, signed to the Texans’ practice squad and then signed by the Eagles late last season. Meanwhile Chandler Jones Womens Jersey , Chad Williams has only 20 catches for 202 yards and 1 TD in two seasons, while Dorian Johnson was cut as a rookie and not even re-signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad. Back in 2017 when Mike Mayock studied Chad Williams’ game tapes, he was impressed with Williams’ talent, Mayock had Williams rated higher than other pundits, most of whom projected Williams as 5th or 6th round pick. The WR the Cardinals were hoping to take at #98 was Carlos Henderson (Louisiana Tech), but he was taken at #82 by the Broncos and then the Cardinals narrowly missed on Kenny Galloday at #96 by the Lions who, by contrast, has put up 98 catches for 1,540 yards and 8 TDs in his first two seasons. While the Cardinals’ additions of UFA WRs Kevin White and Jarius Butler and DeeSean Johnson, have put Chad Williams squarely on the WR bubble, the good news for Williams is that the Cardinals are likely to keep 6 or 7 WRs on the 53 man roster. But that likely means he will have to beat out one or two of these additions.Last year, Williams showed some brief flashes as a playmaker Youth Chandler Jones Jersey , catching 17 passes for 171 yards and his 1st NFL TD, plus running 3 jet sweeps for 42 yards (14.0 ave) the past two seasons combined. It would appear that Williams could be a good fit in the Cardinals’ new spread offense. It is imperative for Chad Williams to come to camp in tip-top shape. Not only will he be running more routes than ever before, his will be running them at a faster pace between plays. Plus, making the roster may depend on his ability to be a stronger contributor on special teams. With his 4.3 speed and athleticism, he could turn into a very good gunner. If he commands the football in practice and in throughout the pre-season games, Chad Williams could claim his roster spot and have a key role in the offense. It’s time now more than ever to prove why he was worthy of a top 100 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Here is a good reminder as to why the Cardinals were so high on Chad Williams when they drafted him:or Chad Williams it’s time for his talent to match his potential. For the second time in seven years, Bruce Arians may chase a retirement with an unretirement. The last time he retired, as offensive coordinator of the Steelers, he had no remaining contractual obligation. (And he didn’t really retire.) This time around, Arians retired with time left on his contract with the Cardinals.Barely a week ago, the NFL reminded teams of the procedures that apply when a team interviews a coach who has retired or resigned with time left on his deal. Specifically, the new team must request permission from the old team. And Chandler Jones Men Jersey , in theory, the old team could request compensation in exchange for said permission. In Arians’ case, he retired after the 2017 season with one year left on his contract plus a team-held option for 2019.Per a league source, that wasn’t enough to compel the Buccaneers to seek permission. Instead, the Bucs were required only to provide notification to the Cardinals. The source says that the Buccaneers worked directly with the league to determine the proper protocol, and the league concluded that the option year fell beyond the term of the contract. The situation is nevertheless curious. Arians is looking to unretire at a time when the Cardinals are looking for a new coach, and Arians serves on the NFL’s Career Development Advisory Panel, which created the list of recommended coaching candidates.Arians previously said he’d unretire only to coach the Browns. He also said he’d have no interest in coaching the Packers.
Rams Outlast Vikings in a Shootout Marcus Sherels Jersey , 38-31 Many facets of the game of football were on display tonight.Fm.Under a picture-perfect California sky, the Minnesota Vikings kicked off the NFL’s Week Four schedule Thursday night by taking on the Los Angeles Rams .The Rams won the toss and deferred, bringing Kirk Cousins and the Vikings offense onto the field to start the game.Cousins’ passing offense moved the ball down the field, and Dalvin Cook’s running was hot and cold.On third-and-ten from the Rams sixteen, Cousins hit Vikings newcomer Aldrick Robinson on a pretty pass in the end zone.Fellow Vikings newcomer Dan Bailey banged the extra point through, to make the score 7-0 Vikings. The drive went 13 plays for 75 yards and took 7:05 off the clock. The Rams, wearing their classic blue-and-yellow jerseys went on their own 12-play, 75-yard drive before quarterback Jared Goff hit running back Todd Gurley on a quick-hit pass to even the score at 7.The offense seemed to be picking on Anthony Barr just a bit, and Gurley blew past Barr on the touchdown. The Vikings took over, and Cousins once again drove the Vikings down the field, including a couple of very nice third-and-fourth-down conversions.Dan Bailey came in for the 37 yards try.For a few fleeting milliseconds, it seemed like the kick was going鈥?you guessed it, wide right. The familiar *BONG* of the uprights sounded, and the ball鈥?went鈥?THROUGH!!!!!ZOMGWEHAVEAKICKERAGAIN!!! 10-7 Vikings. The Rams struck quickly on the next drive - against Anthony Barr yet again - with Jared Goff hitting wide receiver Cooper Kupp in stride for a 70-yard catch-and-run touchdown, giving the Rams their first lead of the game at 14-10.It probably wasn’t entirely Barr’s fault, as replays showed Mac Alexander was initially covering Kupp.Cousins and the Vikings offense didn’t flinch one bit.Three plays Xavier Rhodes Jersey , seventy five yards, 1:22 off the clock.Bang.Bang.Bang.Passes of 34, 24, and finally a 17-yard touchdown, again to Aldrick Robinson, putting the Vikings on top 17-14.Apparently both coaching staffs had reached the end of their playbooks, as both teams exchanged three-and-outs.Then, the Rams stormed back down the field on a four play, 71-yard drive which culminated with Goff hitting Cooper Kupp yet again, to put the Rams back on top 21-17.The drive was marked by poor play and penalties in the defensive backfield.Momentum, body language, everything was pointing at the Rams at this point. The Vikings went five yards on four plays before punting. Then, Xavier Rhodes held his man, kicked the penalty flag, and Jared Goff then hit Brandin Cooks in stride for a 47 yard touchdown, making the score 28-17 Los Angeles. The Vikings abysmal clock management once again reared its ugly head, with the team wasting twenty seconds before bringing in Dan Bailey Mike Remmers Jersey , who booted the ball through the uprights once again, bringing the Vikings to within eight. At halftime, the score stood at 28-20 Rams.To begin the second half, Vikings Defensive End Danielle Hunter made two nice plays and the Rams were forced to punt.Rams Head Coach Sean McVay reached into his bag of tricks to attempt a fake punt, which the Vikings covered well, forcing the turnover on downs. The Vikings were once again forced to punt. The Rams then benefitted from an absolutely awful non-call on a block in the back by guard Rodger Saffold, which allowed Todd Gurley to scamper 57 yards. That brought the Rams into field goal range, and Sam Ficken booted it through making the score 31-20.The Vikings took over with 5:21 left in the third quarter.Kirk Cousins hit Stefon Diggs on a couple of nice plays, then nailed Adam Thielen for a 45 yard score. The Vikings lined up for two, where Cousins then hit Latavius Murray in the flat for the two-point conversion, bringing the Vikings to within three at 31-28.The Rams would answer back yet again, as Jared Goff hit Robert Woods down the seam for a 31-yard touchdown over (it hurts to even say, at this point) Anthony Barr, making the score 38-28.After a Vikings punt, the Rams ran over five and a half minutes off the clock. The Vikings defense held, and forced a field goal attempt by Sam Fickens from 28.Fickens missed, and the score held at 38-28.The Vikings then went on nine play Riley Reiff Jersey , 58-yard drive which ended with a Dan Bailey 40-yard field goal, bringing them within a touchdown of the Rams, at 38-31.With just over two minutes remaining, the Vikings got the ball back with a chance to tie, but Kirk Cousins was stripped of the ball by Rams Defensive End John Franklin-Meyers, and the Rams recovered, effectively ending the game.Quarterback Kirk Cousins was 36/50 for 422 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was sacked four times, for 30 yards. He also led the team in rushing, carrying four times for 28 yards.Dalvin Cook rushed ten times for 20 yards, and Latavius Murray and Roc Thomas ran a combined three times for six yards. The Vikings receivers stat lines were as follows:Stefon Diggs 11/123, Adam Thielen 8/135/1, Kyle Rudolph 5/57, Laquon Treadwell 4/47, Aldrick Robinson 2/33/2Defensively, the Vikings stats would be laughable, if it didn’t hurt so much.Danielle Hunter grabbed the only sack of the night, the team forced no turnovers Latavius Murray Jersey , and gave up 556 yards of total offense. If there is a silver lining, the team held the Rams to just 1-of-6 on third-down.The problem is that the Rams had twelve drives, which means six times, they never had to worry about a third down conversion. With the loss, the Vikings fall to 1-2-1 on the season.Up next is another road game, this time against the World Champion Philadelphia Eagles.Thank you to everyone for hanging around the game threads and also thanks to those of you who found your Vikings coverage right here on the Daily Norseman. But then their paths diverged a bit"While we have our own specific Mock Draft Database for the Minnesota Vikings. . .which is awesome if you haven’t already checked it out. . .there are a couple of different mock drafts that we like to pay a little more attention to than others. Today, we got new mocks from a couple of the leading draftniks out there, so we wanted to highlight them a bit.Over behind the great E$PN paywall, Mel Kiper and Todd McShay did dueling mock drafts for the first two rounds of this year’s selection meeting. When it comes to the Vikings, they both hit the team’s most immediate and pressing need in the first round, but then things went in different directions. We’ll start with Kiper, who has the Vikings taking Alabama offensive lineman Jonah Williams with the 18th overall pick. This would be a bit of a dream scenario for the Vikings, as Williams is widely regarded as the top offensive lineman in this year’s class. Here’s what Kiper had to say about the pick:Kiper had just one other offensive lineman off the board when the Vikings selected at 18, as he had Jawaan Taylor of Florida going to Jacksonville at #7 overall. In the second round, Kiper shifted the Vikings’ focus to the defensive line, as he tabbed Notre Dame defensive tackle Jerry Tillery at #50.As for McShay, he also had the Vikings going with an offensive lineman in the first round George Iloka Jersey , but his choice was Boston College guard Chris Lindstrom, a name that seems to be gaining some momentum as we get closer to draft day.For comparison’s sake, McShay had two offensive linemen off the board when the Vikings picked in his scenario. Like Kiper, he had Taylor to the Jaguars at #7, and he then had Williams going to the Carolina Panthers at pick #16.When it came time for his second round selection, McShay channeled his inner Mike Zimmer and selected a defensive back for the purple. He selected Clemson cornerback Trayvon Mullen with pick #50 overall.I mean, I guess I can’t argue with him too much, and I can’t imagine that Vikings fans would be too angry over the team using a second round pick on a corner. On the other hand, if they use their first round pick on a corner, Vikings Twitter may burn itself to the ground.(I won’t declare if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I’ll leave it entirely up to your judgement.)We’re just three weeks away from the draft and things could definitely change between now and then. But, of these two scenarios, which one do you prefer?
had met with Missouri quarterback Drew Lock Miami Dolphins Jerseys 2019 , a meeting that included the quarterback prospect being awed by the presence of Miami’s Hall of Fame..."News yesterday indicated the Miami Dolphins had met with Missouri quarterback Drew Lock, a meeting that included the quarterback prospect being awed by the presence of Miami’s Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino. The Dolphins continued to look at potential quarterbacks on Wednesday, with the Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad indicating Miami has met with Auburn’s passer Jarrett Stidham.Stidham had a down 2018 season, but much of Auburn’s offense struggled, not just the quarterback. Stidham threw for 2,794 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions on a 60.7 completion rate as a junior. The season before, his first at Auburn and in the SEC after transferring from Baylor via a junior college season, Stidham threw for 3,158 yards with 18 touchdowns, six interceptions Isaiah Prince Jersey nfl draft , and a 66.5 percent completion rate. He was expected to become one of the top passers in college football this past season, but the Auburn offense never seemed to find their rhythm and Stidham’s production dropped. Now, at the Senior Bowl, Stidham can put the 2018 drop-off behind him and start looking toward being an NFL quarterback. The Senior Bowl should allow Stidham to show what he can do with upper-tier talent around him, something that he did not have this past season with Auburn. The Dolphins are doing their due-diligence right now, using the Senior Bowl as an opportunity to speak with as many potential draft targets as possible. Along with Lock and Stidham, the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero add that the Dolphins are expected to talk to quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Will Grier. Miami is expected to move on from incumbent starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill this offseason, but there is some speculation that the team may wait until 2020 to draft their “franchise” quarterback. Even if the plan is to wait for a quarterback, the Dolphins making sure they meet with and fully evaluate this year’s prospect pool is a positive sign from the team. They may not be in love with a player right now, but they could find that diamond-in-the-rough during their evaluations and change their plans to grab him this year.Could it be Stidham? The team has a little more information following their meeting. Receiver Albert Wilson threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to put the Miami Dolphins ahead midway through the fourth quarter Infant Isaiah Prince Jersey , and then turned a short reception into a 74-yard score that sealed a 28-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.Miami coach Adam Gase used creative play-calling to overcome a wave of injuries and penalties, and a 17-minute deficit in time of possession. The Dolphins scored on a pair of shovel passes by Ryan Tannehill that each traveled less than a yard — one on the flip to Wilson, and an earlier similar pass that Jakeem Grant caught before turning the corner for an 18-yard score.“We made some big plays when it mattered,” Tannehill said. “With the explosiveness we have, we just have to keep doing our job and not press.”Thanks to all the flashy plays, the Dolphins are 3-0 for only the third time since 1998, with a game at AFC East rival New England next.“We’re on the right track,” Tannehill said. “Are we there yet? No. But the patterns we’re establishing are going to take us there.”The Raiders, led by first-year coach Jon Gruden, are 0-3 for the first time since 2014 Football Isaiah Prince Jersey , when they started 0-10. They’ve blown a second-half lead in all three defeats.Oakland outgained the Dolphins, and Derek Carr threw for 345 yards. But Xavien Howard intercepted him twice deep in Miami territory, and the Dolphins mounted a first-half goal line stand to stay in the game.“We got hurt on a trick play and didn’t finish some drives in the red zone,” Gruden said. “That’s the story of the game.”Trickery gave the Dolphins their first lead in the fourth quarter. Tannehill handed off to Frank Gore, who tossed the ball to Wilson on an end-around. Wilson — a quarterback in high school — then lobbed the first pass of his career to a wide-open Grant, who outmaneuvered two Raiders to the end zone.“I said he better catch it, and he better not get tackled,” Wilson said.Following Howard’s second interception, Wilson scooted around the end after taking Tannehill’s short pitch and scored the clincher. Wilson and Grant ran side by side in the clear for the final 30 yards and exchanged a gleeful high five approaching the end zone.“We’ve got guys who can do a lot of different things,” Gase said. “They can throw it Isaiah Prince Miami Dolphins Jerseys , they can run it.”Oakland’s ball-control approach took a toll on a Miami front four that lost three players. Akeem Spence was ejected, and William Hayes and Andre Branch suffered knee injuries. The Raiders’ Jordy Nelson had 139 yards receiving in the first seven minutes, and finished with 173 on six catches.Tannehill went 17 for 23 for 289 yards and three scores with no turnovers.JARRINGMiami’s Kenny Stills took a big hit when he made a 34-yard touchdown reception in stride in the back of the end zone and slammed into the cushioned retaining wall.NELSON’S STARTMiami missed injured safety Reshad Jones at the start, with rookie replacement Minkah Fitzpatrick burned on the second play when Nelson turned a short pass over the middle into a 61-yard gain. That set up Nelson’s 12-yard touchdown catch, again over the middle. On the Raiders’ next possession, Nelson beat Bobby McCain deep for a 66-yard gain — his longest since 2014 — before Miami made a goal-line stand.COSTLY FLAGSSpence was ejected in the second quarter for ripping off guard Kelechi Osemele’s helmet. Spence was penalized for unnecessary roughness, which negated a third-down sack by teammate Cameron Wake and led to an Oakland field goal.INJURY REPORTDolphins: Hayes (right knee) was hurt when he sacked Carr and missed the second half. … Branch hurt his knee in the second half. … TE A.J. Derby (foot) also sat out the second half. … McCain was shaken up in the final minutes. … LB Chase Allen suffered a foot injury in the first half. … S Reshad Jones was inactive because of a shoulder injury.Raiders: T Donald Penn (concussion) and S Karl Joseph (lower leg) sat out the second half. … WR Seth Roberts was among Oakland’s inactives.ANTHEMStills and Wilson kneeled during the national anthem, and defensive end Robert Quinn raised his right fist. All three Dolphins have staged similar protests before their team’s other games this season.UP NEXTDolphins: Play next Sunday at New England, where they’ve lost nine games in a row.Raiders: Return home to play Cleveland next Sunday.

Hill could work his way to a starting spot (and the money suggests it’s a possibility) in 2020 and beyond, along with 2019 NFL Draft third-round draft pick rookie CB David Long Jr.Hill was originally undrafted in 2015, signing with the Cincinnati Bengals Brandin Cooks Jersey , being released, claimed by the New England Patriots, released once again, and then claimed by the Rams. He has 93 tackles, 11 pass deflections, two interceptions, and two tackles for loss over his career. The aren’t your father’s Browns. Or your grandfather’s Browns. ve National pundits took note when the Kansas City Chiefs knocked off the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road for the first time since 1986 Darwin Thompson Jersey nfl draft , moving the Chiefs up to the third spot in our aggregated power rankings, and dropping the Steelers out of the top 10.Pundit Power Rankings for Week 3Chiefs AFC West Teams Other AFC TeamsHere's what the pundits had to say about the Chiefs this week:ESPN (3rd from 6th)NFL.com (Elliot Harrison - 4th from 11th)SBNation (Rebecca Toback - 3rd from 7th)Sporting News (Vinnie Iyer - 3rd from 8th)Yahoo! Sports (Frank Schwab - 4th from 7th)CBS Sports (Pete Prisco - 3rd from 8th)Among the pundits, NFL.com’s Elliott Harrison gave the Chiefs the biggest boost, bringing them up seven spots from last week. But all of them put the Chiefs at third or fourth in their rankings. The pundits are starting to think the Cincinnati Bengals could be for real. The two polls moved them up at least 10 spots, and their overall position improved by nine. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got some more love, too, showing an overall improvement of nine, with four of the six rankings moving them up double digits. The scribes agree the Texans are headed down, but disagree a lot on how much. They fell 11 spots overall — the biggest drop of the week — ranging from down two spots to down eleven. Now the Chiefs come back to Arrowhead for the home opener against the San Francisco 49ers.We’ll see what the pundits all have to say next Tuesday.Don’t forget!Wednesday on Arrowhead Pride, we’ll start combining what the pundits say with what the number-crunchers say — to give you True Power Rankings! The Dixon Five: Chiefs beat Steelers 42-37 The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 42-37 on Sunday at Heinz Field. Here are five hot takes from the game:1. ZeroThat’s how many days it’s been since the Chiefs beat the Steelers on their home turf. Until the game clock ticked down to triple zeros at Heinz Field on Sunday afternoon Xavier Williams Jersey , the previous count had reached 11,592.(Thanks to Gary McKenzie for making the original calculation). That’s more than 31 years — more than a whole generation, and even longer than the time between Todd Blackledge’s last start as a Chief and Patrick Mahomes’ first one.And it’s not a coincidence that those two are roughly similar periods of time, and occurred almost simultaneously. It’s hard to imagine a more telling illustration of how dramatically things have changed for the Chiefs in 2018 than Sunday’s victory in Pittsburgh. And in this moment, it seems appropriate to propose that we change the focus of our record keeping to reflect this new reality:It has now been 336 days since the Steelers defeated the Chiefs on the road.Of course, Mahomes will no longer be the Chiefs quarterback when this new streak reaches past 11,592 days. By that time, even my grandson Jack will be reaching the end of his career as Kansas City’s starting quarterback under head coach Eric Berry and offensive coordinator Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.Unless — unlike Mahomes — he opts to become a pitcher instead of a quarterback.2. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty ImagesAnd yes... it is the light of an approaching train. It’s painted entirely in red, and has Patrick Mahomes Hype Train in enormous gold letters on each side, so no one can miss it.This train has been running a regular schedule throughout the Midwest since April of 2017.But now Patrick Mahomes Jersey , its speed is being increased, and its route is being expanded to include the entire country, with stops at every sports news outlet and talk show — along with break rooms and water coolers at every place of business.I’d normally want to remind you that a train traveling at such a high speed is inherently dangerous to ride, because it can run off the rails so easily. But it sure is fun, isn’t it?3. Hello Sammy Watkins!Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty ImagesIf you’ve been waiting for the high-priced offseason acquisition to make an impact on the Chiefs offense, your wait is over.On Sunday, he had 71 yards on four catches — plus another 31 yards on an end around. And that was just in the first half!He finished the game with 100 yards on six catchesWatkins really showed his stuff on Sunday — getting big yards after the catch, and repeatedly demonstrating his attitude as a ball carrier. This is the advantage Kansas City now possesses: when the opposing team has no choice but to prepare to stop Tyreek Hill, you can script your offense around Watkins (or some other receiver) to start the game.It worked beautifully for the Chiefs in the first half, and then they shifted the focus to Hill in the second. But even late in the game Mitch Morse Jersey , Watkins had another big gain where he reminded everybody why the Chiefs wanted him on their roster.4.Hello Travis Kelce!Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty ImagesHere’s another new reality to which we now have to adjust: when one of the Chiefs receivers doesn’t have a big game, it doesn’t necessarily represent a problem.Travis Kelce had only one catch for six yards in last week’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, and more than a few people pointed it out.And that’s OK.Back when the Chiefs didn’t have so many offensive weapons, such a thing could be (and often was) a sign that something was wrong. But in Patrick Mahomes World, all of the Chiefs receivers are going to have days like that. And then they’ll have days like the one Kelce had on Sunday, where he had 106 yards on seven catches, along with two touchdowns. That’s the whole point of having so many offensive weapons — that the opposition has to prepare for all of them, and you get to decide which ones are going to get the emphasis.5. Goodbye rational discussion about the Chiefs defense.Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty ImagesNow that the Steelers are just the latest team to put up big yards on the Chiefs defense, the drumbeat is going to get louder. The defense is terrible. The Chiefs didn’t do anything about the secondary in the offseason.Bob Sutton is still living in the 1960s.I’m not going to argue against any of those points — and I doubt it would matter if I did.I’d just point out that if you have an offense that can score so quickly — which the Chiefs certainly do — the end result is that your defense is going to be on the field longer. On Sunday, the Steelers ran 20 more plays than the Chiefs did Chris Jones Jersey , and held the ball four and a half minutes longer. That adds up to a tired defense.Furthermore, if your team can routinely jump out to big leads early in the game — which so far, has been the case for the Chiefs — the opponent has no choice but to respond with more emphasis on the passing game. That adds up to a lot of passing yards given up.I’m not suggesting that we should just shrug our shoulders and accept it.The defense is going to have to be better for the Chiefs to have realistic playoff expectations. But with such an explosive offense in hand, it takes pressure off the defense, giving them time to develop as a unit and improve. They don’t have to be the best in the league. But if they can even be average, that might be enough for the Chiefs to be a very hard team to beat at the end of the year.
EAGAN Long Sleeve Cameron Smith Jersey , Minn. — Minnesota Vikings saddened by the release of 11-year veteran defensive end Brian Robison, one of the most difficult moves made during the weekend roster reduction. The departure of the team’s longest-tenured player made Newman think even deeper about the passage of time and his place in the game. Soon after Robison was let go, then, Newman accepted an offer to serve as the assistant defensive backs coach and thus declare his retirement as a player.More Vikings coveragePhotos of the Week: 7/21/19 – 7/27/19Rookie Bradbury is central figure to Vikings’ overhauled offensive lineVikings depth at cornerback being tested, Hughes still not clearedPlayers to watch at Minnesota Vikings 2019 training campTop Tweets: Vikings WR Diggs makes push for All-NFL Style Team“Probably why I was so OK with doing what I did,” Newman said. “It’s tough, but I feel like having experienced so much stuff, met so many people, for me it’s not a hard transition. He paused, looking down with his hand pressed against his forehead.“It was my time, you know?” Newman said, after composing himself.Vikings coach Mike Zimmer presented the opportunity to Newman on Saturday, when NFL teams had to reach the 53-man limit for the regular season. Newman, who will turn 40 on Tuesday, said he could’ve kept his spot on the roster if he preferred to keep playing. That would’ve meant releasing a younger player.“At some point, you have to be true to yourself and say, ‘Hey, do I want to keep going forward Harrison Smith Jersey , have a chance to maybe tear up your back or neck or whatever?'” Newman said. “Some of the younger talent, obviously, you have to either say, ‘I’ll be selfish,’ and maybe take the roster spot or get somebody else an opportunity to live their dream. So, it was pretty easy. Everybody’s asking me if I’m OK and all this. I’m good. I’m still in football. Robison’s release paved the way for Stephen Weatherly (age 24) and Tashawn Bower (age 23) to become the primary backups to Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter.“The guy had an awesome career and he played at a high level,” Griffen said. “Do I wish he was here? Wile punted for Arizona and Atlanta in 2016, but was not on a roster in 2017.“We just didn’t feel like we were punting very well in the preseason,” Zimmer said. EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed cornerback Bené Benwikere, adding experience at position where their depth has taken a hit.Benwikere has spent time with six teams over his first five NFL seasons, since being drafted by Carolina in the fifth round out of San Jose State in 2014. He broke his left leg late in the 2015 season and has bounced around since then, playing in 54 games with 22 starts. Last year, he started eight games for Arizona before finishing the year with Oakland.Though the Vikings’ top three cornerbacks are well established with Xavier Rhodes Marcus Sherels Jersey , Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander, Mike Hughes remains on the physically unable to perform list while rehabilitating from a torn left ACL that cut short his rookie season after six games. How can they distinguish themselves from their peers? Certain positions, like quarterback and the special teams slots Greg Gaines Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , don’t really have much of a roster battle. Others certainly do, especially at the back of the roster. Whether they’re rookie UDFAs or fringe candidates, they don’t have much more time to stand out from the pack. pened in the Superdome Womens Laquon Treadwell Jersey , a quarterback on the wrong side of 40 found himself battered, bruised, and nearly broken in two. This time, the same thing could be on the agenda — absent an allegedly extra $10,000 inducement.Though Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald said nothing about a specific intent to force Saints quarterback Drew Brees to the sideline, Donald admitted that he and his teammates plan to aggressively pursue the future Hall of Famer on Sunday.“We got a gameplan, we’re going to stick to it and we’re going to get after him,” Donald told reporters on Thursday.Donald vowed to “get after” Brees no fewer than three times.“Anytime you play against a great quarterback like that, he’s going to do things a normal quarterback ain’t going to do,” Donald said. “So we know what to expect. We try to do what we got to do to try our best to make him uncomfortable and get after him and, you know, but we got to stop the run first before we think about rushing the passer. They got two great backs we got to slow down and try to find ways to stop. After we do that Linval Joseph Jersey , we’ll get after the quarterback and try and put some pressure on him.”There’s nothing wrong with vowing to “get after” a quarterback. Implicit in the message is a goal that always has been part of high-level, high-stakes football: If the defense can successfully “get after” the quarterback over and over and over again, the accumulation of occasions on which the quarterback was gotten after could get him out of the game. That continues to be the biggest flaw in the league’s pearl-clutching over the bounty scandal that came to a head during the 2009 NFC title game. As Saints coach Sean Payton demonstrated last week when wheeling a case containing more than $200,000, a Super Bowl ring, and a Super Bowl trophy into a meeting room, there’s already a clear incentive to do whatever is necessary — within the rules — to win. And it’s a given that it’s always easier to win when facing backups than when facing starters.Especially when the starter is one of the five or so greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.Does that make it wrong to “get after” said quarterback? Hardly. Whether the end result is making him uncomfortable or making him incapable of continuing, the Rams have every reason to “get after” a guy who just turned 40 three days ago. s WILL linebacker under Matt Burke http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-ryan-fitzpatrick-jersey , serving an important role. How will that role change in Brian Flores’ defense?"Questions among the linebacker group were ubiquitous leading into the 2018 Miami Dolphins training camp, as Raekwon McMillan had missed his rookie season to an ACL injury, and Kiko Alonso had a rough year transitioning to outside linebacker in 2017, especially in pass coverage. The Dolphins selected Jerome Baker in the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft: 6’1”, 229. A nickel linebacker at best, right? At least he’d theoretically help against tight ends and running backs Womens Chase Allen Jersey , everybody is running 11 personnel, it’s a passing league, yada yada yada, or so went the collective group-think.in a base scenario, but this is about where an ILB would be playing depth-wise in a 3-4 look. The sideline-to-sideline burst is apparent, the concern will be in those situations where he’s fighting off offensive linemen and expected to make plays post-grapple. I anticipate more 3 DL looks under Brian Flores Davon Godchaux Jersey , and as a result, Jerome Baker will prove his mettle by navigating through traffic and being able to disengage from blockers. The Oakland Raiders run strong side here (and the Raiders left tackle possibly gets away with a holding call on Robert Quinn) with a fullback and Jared Cook in the slot. Rodney Hudson is designed to get up to the 2nd level and cut the WILL off. Baker keeps light feet, side steps Hudson (one of the better centers in the NFL) and brings down Marshawn Lynch. I feel comfortable with Baker combing through traffic east-and-west.Baker played this poorly in my opinion, he had inside help and gave up outside leverage. Collapsing inside earlier could have allowed him to disengage and get back outside, or simply continuing his angle outside would’ve forced the ball carrier inside to Cameron Wake (or TJ McDonald if he somehow took a slippery wide angle to avoid Wake). Jared Cook doesn’t get much of a block on him either, so it’s disappointing Baker didn’t have more of an impact on this play. North-south collisions were a mixed bag for Jerome Baker in 2018 as is http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-albert-wilson-jersey , but it’s plays like these that make me nervous where he needs to take on a block (this time in a jet sweep situation), create separation, and track down the ball carrier. I think Jerome Baker can add weight without sacrificing his athleticism a la Jerod Mayo. Baker will still have a premium in passing situations regardless. With the possibility of adding another 300 snaps to his plate and the defensive scheme installation on the horizon, Jerome Baker will be asked to be our most versatile linebacker, our most trusted linebacker. It’ll depend on growing from a supremely important niche role to a “jack of all trades”, including playing inside. Do you think this characterization is accurate Womens Daniel Kilgore Jersey , and do you think Baker is up to the task? Let me know down in the Comments Section! was arrested over the weekend for a misdemeanor assault of a female http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-jack-youngblood-jersey , according to Langston Wertz Jr. of the .Garcia, a former fourth round pick of the Carolina Panthers, was arrested on Saturday afternoon in a south Charlotte neighborhood. The 29-year old alleged victim sustained minor injuries but she declined medical treatment.Garcia spent nine years in the NFL playing for the Panthers, St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals. He is currently an afternoon talk show host at 610 WFNZ in Charlotte and has been an assistant high school football coach for Charlotte Catholic. Garcia has been suspended from his coaching duties following the incident as Charlotte Catholic plays for the state title in their division this weekend. He did not appear on his radio show on Monday either as his court appearance for the incident was scheduled for Monday morning. ATLANTA (AP) — They still talk about that play at the Marist School.Wham Naked. If there was ever any doubt that Sean McVay was a coach-in-the-making, it should've ended that night back in 2003. "He was special," said Alan Chadwick, who was McVay's high school coach at Marist. "He had a lot of insight at a young age."The Super Bowl represents a homecoming of sorts for McVay, who was born in Ohio but spent his formative years in the Atlanta area. From seventh through 12th grades, he attended the private Catholic prep school on the northern edges of the city. It is an elite institution that has turned out everyone from longtime Miss America host Bert Parks to Turner broadcaster Ernie Johnson Jr. to a lengthy list of athletes who went on to play professional sports.McVay has joined the honor roll of famous alumni, a 33-year-old phenom of a coach who will lead the Los Angeles Rams against the five-time Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Sunday. He still looks back fondly on his time at Marist, where he was the starting quarterback for two seasons, leading the War Eagles to a 26-3 record and the Class 4A state championship in 2003."When you talk about you become the company that you keep … great coaches, great teachers, great people, with some of the closest friends that I still have to this day, just the values that they instilled in me and learning how to just handle things like a man Womens Austin Blythe Jersey , how you listen, learn and then you lead, I was so fortunate to have that experience at Marist," McVay said this week. "I wouldn't be who I am today without having had that opportunity."Wham Naked was like a culmination of that experience.During McVay's senior season, the War Eagles faced what Chadwick still remembers as the toughest test of their title run, taking on undefeated Shaw in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. With the clock winding down, Marist trailed by five but drove deep into Shaw territory. With the War Eagles facing a third-and-goal from the 3, Chadwick called timeout, bringing McVay over to the sideline."We start talking about plays," said Chadwick, who is still the head coach at Marist after 34 seasons. "The offensive coordinator and myself, we're talking about what plays we could potentially run. Sean just kind of interjects. He says, ‘Let's run Wham Naked.' We kind of look each other, shake our heads, shake our shoulders and say, ‘OK Jared Goff Jersey , go with it.'"McVay took the snap out of the wishbone formation and feigned a handoff to the left halfback slicing over right tackle. The entire offensive line went that way. Everyone went that way. The Shaw defenders were so certain they had stopped the runner, a couple of them actually began celebrating.Only one problem: McVay had kept the ball, pulling it tight to his stomach, with his back to the line, in order to pull off the ultimate fake. There wasn't anyone within five yards of him as he sauntered across the goal line, calmly flipped the bar to one of the officials, and thrust his arms in the air while waiting to celebrate with his late-arriving teammates. But McVay wasn't done. He had played defensive back during his Marist career, so Chadwick sent him in as insurance with Shaw still hoping to pull out the victory. On a long pass down the field, McVay stepped in to make the game-clinching interception.A couple of weeks later, in the state championship game, McVay guided the War Eagles to a 21-0 lead before sustaining a foot injury midway through the second half. He was limping noticeably but there was no way he was coming out of the game. Chadwick scaled back the offense, basically limiting McVay to handing off or pitching the ball, and Marist prevailed 21-6.Only after the game was it determined that he had a broken foot.Chadwick wasn't all that surprised. He knew McVay was tough as nails the first time he saw him at a summer coaching camp. There was no contact. It was merely flag football."He collided with somebody and got his nose broken," Chadwick said. "So he went home that day — and he came back the next day. And I thought, ‘Man, this is something for a young kid.' I wouldn't have come back. … I wouldn't have wanted to come back. But he did."McVay was a natural-born leader http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-orlando-pace-jersey , the sort of player everyone on the team gravitated to. He was fast. He was fearless. He was smart.Long after McVay had graduated, Chadwick learned that his former quarterback had several books on leadership that he read in his spare time. McVay was preparing himself for life after Marist."The intangibles he had as a leader — to direct a huddle, direct an offense, understand the game — those kids would just follow him anywhere," Chadwick recalled. "They believed in him soooo much."There wasn't time in McVay's busy Super Bowl schedule to make a quick visit his former school. That's OK with Chadwick. He proudly holds up a football that McVay signed for him, which holds a place of prominence in the coach's tiny office overlooking the football stadium."Proud to be part of the Long Blue Line," McVay wrote, referring to another nickname for the War Eagles. "Sean McVay. Class of '04."Come Sunday, people at Marist will be cheering for one of their favorite sons, hoping he can find a way to knock off Bill Belichick (the Patriots' twice-as-old coach) and Tom Brady (the quarterback who is actually eight years older than the Rams' leader).Don't bet against the guy who really blossomed about 15 miles north of Mercedes-Benz Stadium."The scoreboard will take care of itself," said Tommy Marshall, the school's longtime athletic director. "Those relationships last a lifetime."

Here is the breakdown of a pass catcher from the Big 12:Hakeem Butler, wide receiverTrevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports6’5” | 227 lbs | Iowa StateBaltimore, MDDraft grade: second roundDraft range: second round40 time: 4.48NFL Combine: 36” vertical, 128” broad, NA. 20yd, NA. 3-cone, 18 bench reps2018 Stats: 60 REC, 1,310 YDS (22 Y/R), 9 TDBackground: Former two-star recruit. Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, until 2012 when his mother passed away. Moved to Texas and lived with cousins Aaron and Andrew Harrison Cameron Erving Jersey , who both play in the NBA. Strengths: Extremely rare athletic profile. Butler is a massive human being that moves like a much smaller man. Elite arm length, throw the ball anywhere in the stadium and he’ll catch it. Uses his big frame well to box out defenders. Big-time red-zone threat, developing between the 20s. Sinks hips and changes directions very well for a guy his size. Shows promise as a route runner. Has good build-up speed and can blow the top off a defense. Has shown the ability kicked inside to play the slot as well. Weaknesses: Butler will make a circus catch, then turn around and drop an easy one on the next play. Hands are very inconsistent. For someone as big and athletic as Butler, he lets himself get bullied at the line of scrimmage and has to play with better technique before he can consistently play on the outside. Will struggle with more physical corners can get knocked off his route too easily. Route tree is limited. How he fits with the Chiefs:Butler is a project and a bit of a projection, but he is one that will get drafted high because of his rare athletic profile. He did show the ability to play in the slot, and I believe that would be his quickest route to the field for the Chiefs. Obviously, Butler adds a skill set that the Chiefs do not have. Butler is unrefined and will need to clean up his feet and hand usage at the line of scrimmage before he could contribute consistently for anyone. But he is the type of player you create packages for just to get on the field, and I’m sure Patrick Mahomes could get used to throwing some jump balls to Butler. Sports, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was reluctant to say much but did provide a few details during the NFL coaches breakfast in Phoenix on Tuesday.Reid said he had not personally spoken to Hill, who shattered the Chiefs franchise record for receiving yards in 2018, and was expected to be signed to a long-term contract extension before the 2019 season.“I have not — our counsel has told us not to do that, so I have not been in contact with him.” Reid said to reporters on Tuesday. “I really don’t even have a further statement from what we put out. So really, nothing’s happened there. There’s no news on that.”The statement to which Reid referred — issued by the team on March 15 — said only that the team was aware of the investigation involving Hill, and was in the process of gathering information about it from the league and local authorities. In a tweet earlier on Tuesday, Paylor had reported the gist of Reid’s remarks about Hill, but did not include a reference to team counsel. So it would now appear that Reid hasn’t spoken to Hill at the direction of the team’s attorneys.According to Paylor’s reporting, Reid confirmed that the Chiefs have had internal conversations about potential responses the team might have to various ways the alleged incident might ultimately be resolved. But Reid was apparently unwilling to expand on those conversations.“You always want to make sure everybody’s OK, and then let it run its course and make sure you let that part happen... that’s where we’re at right now Womens Chris Jones Jersey ,” Reid said. “As a coach or human, I mean, you’re gonna have things that happen. So you deal with it.”Paylor also reported that Reid said he hasn’t yet concerned himself with what the team might do if Hill is not on the team in 2019.Fans and the media have drawn many parallels between the current situation with Hill and the release of Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, who was quickly released from the team last November when video surfaced of an incident involving Hunt in his hometown of Cleveland more than a year ago.Reporters reminded Reid of the team’s fast response to that incident.“If we’re gonna make a move like that, it’s pretty well thought out,” Reid responded. “So we try to gather the information and then go from there, and obviously allow law enforcement or whoever is involved in that [to] run its course, too.”It is unknown how long the investigation of the alleged incident will last.According to reporting from the Kansas City Star last Tuesday, a parallel investigation by the Kansas Department for Children and Families is now underway, and such investigations typically last at least 30 days — sometimes much longer.
GLENDALE Youth J. J. Nelson Jersey , Ariz. (AP) —n the Detroit Lions meet the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and both have had a rough season.“Yeah, your first year you’re going to have struggles,” Detroit defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois said. “If you don’t, you lucked up.”Most of the luck for these teams has been bad.Matt Patricia’s Lions (4-8) have lost five out of six. Steve Wilks’ Cardinals (3-9), though, are coming off the best performance of what’s been a miserable season, a surprising 20-17 victory over the Packers in Green Bay.But the Cardinals have been decimated by injuries. When left tackle D.J. Humphries and wide receiver Christian Kirk wentdown this week, that left 14 Arizona players on injured reserve, six of them offensive linemen.“We’ve got guys who weren’t on the team a week ago that are out there starting and playing,” said receiver Larry Fitzgerald, in his 15th season with the Cardinals. “We’re not making excuses. We’re paid to do a job. Whoever is lined up Stitched A.Q. Shipley Jersey , doesn’t matter where they’re from, what their number is, whoever those 11 are on the field, we’re going to do our best.”The Lions, who also don’t have a lot to play for as far as the standings go, echoed that theme.“It’s all about confidence,” defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison said. “If a guy can gain some confidence from some wins, it’s hard to gain confidence when you’re losing. Just stay in it and be able to go into the offseason on a good note.”Detroit is 0-3 against the NFC West this season and has lost eight in a row at Arizona. Here are some things to consider when the Cardinals host the Lions:WHO ARE THOSE GUYSOnly one player from the offensive line remains for Arizona, rookie center MasonCole. And he became a starter only because A.Q. Shipley blew out his knee in preseason.Cole is one of three rookies who will start on the O-line for the Cardinals. The others are seventh-round draft pick Korey Cunningham at left tackle, and left guard Colby Gossett, an undrafted free agent who made his NFL debut against the Packers. Oday Aboushi, signed on Oct. 23 Youth A.Q. Shipley Jersey , is the right guard. Will Holden, who was with the Cardinals a year ago but released in training camp, re-signed last week and will start at right tackle.“We can’t worry about what we don’t have this time of the year,” Wilks said. “We’ve just got to go out and execute.”NO KERRYONDetroit’s rookie running back Kerryon Johnson showed what he is capable of before he hurt his knee last month in a win over Carolina. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry, totaling 641 yards with three scores and caught 32 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. Johnson didn’t practice all week, though, and was ruled out for the game on Friday. It’s his third straight missed game.JOHNSON & EDMONDSDavid Johnson, like most of the Arizona offense, isn’t having a great year, but his understudy, rookie Chase Edmonds, had something of a breakout game against the Packers.Edmonds Stitched Rodney Gunter Jersey , a fourth-round pick out of Fordham, gained 53 yards on just five carries, including touchdown runs of 6 and 8yards. Johnson was productive, too, with 69 yards, but needed 20 carries. Overall, the Cardinals rushed for a season-best 182 yards.Patricia expects to see both backs in the game at times.“They have a lot of good players, a lot of skill players that can step in, and they’ve shown other packages like when the two backs are out there,” he said.STAFFORD’S STRUGGLESTurnovers late in the game plagued Matthew Stafford in Detroit’s last two losses, to Chicago and the Los Angeles Rams, both at home. He threw two interceptions against the Bears and fumbled away the ball against the Rams. But his struggles aren’t solely his fault as his receiving corps has been hit hard by injuries.Stafford has a fierce defender in Patricia.“Let’s not lose the fact that I don’t think anyone’s out there trying not to win Black Justin Pugh Jersey ,” Patricia said. “I think everybody’s out there really trying to work really hard to go help this team win, and he’s certainly at the top of that category.”ONE MOREFitzgerald needs one catch to pass Jerry Rice for most receptions for one team in NFL history. He only had three catches last week, but one was a sliding grab of a 32-yard pass from Josh Rosen on a third-and-23 play. Last week, wide receivers were at the center of that debate, and Atlanta’s Julio Jones was proclaimed to be the best WR in football (according to Twitter).I’ve got to hand it to GMFB — this was a pretty exciting week in the Twitter polls. Round 1 started out with a bang, as Julio Jones and New Orleans’ Michael Thomas were grouped together in an initial faction of four.Whether this truly was randomly generated or there was some rigging done to group Jones and Thomas into the same initial group I don’t know, but it worked out beautifully for GMFB. Falcons and Saints fans got into it, and this specific poll tallied more votes than the other three polls, and it had nearly twice as many comments on it as the other three polls combined.Saints fans did all they could to steal a win for Thomas, who got out to a big early lead. But just like in the Saints’ NFC Championship Game against the Rams, that lead ended up evaporating when Falcons Twitter realized what was going on. Jones won the popular vote in terms of sheer numbers, but GMFB called it a tie to avoid angering Saints fans Takkarist McKinley Jersey On Sale , who probably would have tried to sue NFL Network if they didn’t get their way. Either way, the top two players in each poll move on in the next round so it was a moot point. In the quarterfinals, Julio Jones went up against the second best wide receiver in the NFC South — Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans — and handily dispatched him with 85% of the vote.Saints Twitter was out in full force trying to will the inferior Thomas into a conversation with the big boys at the position. Theysuccessfully got him into the semi-final, which was a rematch against Jones.Saints fans tried to bring out everything including the kitchen sink in this one — citing the one touchdown Thomas had more than Julio in 2018, trying to compare Thomas’ stats in his first three years in the league against Jones’ while conveniently leaving out the fact that No. 11 missed most of his third year due to injury, and of course posting that gif of Thomas flexing after one of his trademarked 6-yard receptions on an out route. It didn’t work out:Twitter put a stop to the tomfoolery, although I’m sure Saints fans wanted GMFB to re-do the entire competition. If you’re looking at 2018 in a vacuum, you’ll see that Julio Jones beat Michael Thomas out in every major receiving category except for receptions (meaningless statistic), catch percentage (meaningless statistic), and touchdowns (of which he had one fewer). Jones had 272 more receiving yards (he led the league with 1,677 such yards), and was the most clutch fourth quarter receiver in football. If you look at the comparison outside of the vacuum of 2018 Takkarist McKinley Jersey Sale , then Jones has an even stronger argument against Thomas. He’s put up more receiving yards than Thomas’ career high in each of the past five seasons, and has also never tallied less than 60 receiving yards in a playoff game. Julio took over In each of his two career NFC Championship games — totaling a combined 362 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the contests. In the NFC title game this year, Thomas had four catches for 36 yards, and his biggest contribution was flailing his arms and taking himself out of the play as Drew Brees threw an interception in overtime. In the finals, Jones faced a worthy opponent in DeAndre Hopkins — the first truly elite wide receiver he went up against in this competition. After a 50/50 tie in the initial poll, GMFB ran it back over the weekend and Julio secured the win:The polls have spoken — Julio Jones is the best wide receiver in football. Of course, most Falcons fans knew this already, but it’s always nice seeing one of our own get the recognition he deserves. FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff received a text from Matt Ryan during the NFL draft. The Falcons’ quarterback obviously approved of the team’s first-round selections of two offensive linemen.Dimitroff said the message from Ryan was brief: “Thanks. Just thanks and wow.”For Dimitroff and coach Dan Quinn, the top priority of the offseason was to build a better line after Ryan was sacked 42 times last season, the second-highest total of his career. He was hit 113 times, the third-most in the league.Dimitroff’s first pick was guard Chris Lindstrom of Boston College. He then traded away the Falcons’ second- and third-round picks to add tackle Kaleb McGary of Washington late in the first round. An improved line also would be key to the team’s hopes of boosting the running game Replica Takkarist McKinley Jersey , which sagged last season.“Make no mistake about it, we knew what we needed to do in this offseason and that was to continue to fortify Matt and the offensive line,” Dimitroff saidWHO THEY GOTLindstrom and McGary could form a new starting tandem on the right side of the Falcons’ line. Clearly, they are the key to how this draft will be remembered.“It may not have been shiny but I don’t think grit is real shiny,” Quinn said taking two offensive linemen in the first round. “I’m real thrilled they’ll be part of this group for a long time.”Dimitroff went to work on addressing other needs on Saturday’s final day of the draft. Cornerbacks Kendall Sheffield of Ohio State and Jordan Miller of Washington, defensive end John Cominsky of Charleston and running back Qadree Ollison of Pittsburgh each were picked to bolster areas of pressing concern. The team’s last pick, running back Marcus Green of Louisiana-Monroe, may make an immediate contribution as a return specialist. The versatile Green (5-8, 190) was primarily a wide receiver in college, but the Falcons are intrigued by his big-play potential at running back and on returns.Cominsky or Green could develop into long-term surprises of the draft class.SURPRISE MOVEAfter continuing his streak of making at least one trade in each of his 12 drafts as Atlanta’s general manager by adding a second first-round pick, Dimitroff remained inactive on the second day of the draft. Dimitroff traded away his second- and third-round picks but was widely expected to pull off a trade back into the second day. The surprise was he couldn’t deal two or more of his Saturday picks to move back into the second or third rounds.HOW THEY DIDAtlanta had ample picks to allow Dimitroff the luxury of overhauling the offensive line with two first-round picks. He knew taking a guard so high in the first round would generate some negative reviews, but he and coach Dan Quinn agreed Lindstrom was the right pick. Adding McGary at No. 31 overall meant the Falcons could have two rookies starting on the right side of the line.Dimitroff may have gambled on some high-upside picks Stitched Takkarist McKinley Jersey , including Cominsky, who was an option quarterback in high school before gaining 70 pounds in college. Ollison, a power runner, had inconsistent production at Pittsburgh. It will be judged as a successful draft if Lindstrom and McGary win starting jobs, Ollison can be a complementary running back with Devonta Freeman and Sheffield and Cominsky win roster spots and contribute on special teams.WHAT’S NEXT?Dimitroff was successful in filling needs, though there may be room for more help on the defensive line, at linebacker and perhaps at running back from undrafted free agents.
n the back-end of the Los Angels Rams defense this fall as the team added 12-year veteran Eric Weddle following his release from the Baltimore Ravens.Johnson is getting set to enter his third season in the league. Lamarcus Joyner has served as his counterpart at safety with the Rams the last two seasons. While Joyner had some decent moments for the Rams Earl Thomas Jersey 2019 , Weddle’s track record of six Pro Bowls and two first-team All-Pro selections brings a different dynamic to the Rams secondary.“He’s just a genius. I haven’t seen anybody like him,” Johnson said on NFL Network on Monday. “I haven’t been in the league long but I know he’s a special one and I’m excited to see what we can do. Not just how it can make me better but I’m excited to see what he and I can do for this whole defense.”The Rams signed Weddle in early March just days after his release from the Ravens. Weddle returns to Southern California, where he spent the first nine years of his career with the San Diego Chargers. Weddle has also vowed to help Johnson take the next step in his game.“I’m here to push him to that next level. He’s got a chance to be an exceptional safety for a long time and I can see it in him,” Weddle said in Mat. “He’s got to get there, so I’ll push him every day that’s for sure.”Weddle may not be the player he used to be at his peak, but he’s coming off three straight Pro Bowl appearances from his time in Baltimore. Having a veteran voice in the secondary could be a big boost for Johnson and the rest of the Rams defensive backs. General Manager Eric DeCosta could attack the position from several different angles, whether it be via free agency, trades or the draft, and it just so happens that a Pro Bowl running back is potentially available:Entering his fourth season, Jordan Howard eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in his first two years and fell just 65 yards short in 2018. Howard has recorded an impressive 24 rushing touchdowns in his career and was named to the Pro Bowl as a rookie when he rushed for 1,313 yards and six touchdowns as well as catching 29 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown. With two picks in the third Ty Montgomery Jersey 2019 , fourth and sixth rounds of the draft, Baltimore certainly has the ammo to acquire Howard if Chicago is actually looking to trade, although it’s unclear what what the Bears asking price would be. Howard averaged only 3.7 YPC last season, and he never seemed to truly acclimate to new head coach Matt Nagy’s offense. Starting fresh in the Ravens power running game could reinvigorate Howard’s production. One could say that Howard is too similar to Gus Edwards, the undrafted running back who rushed for 718 yards and two touchdowns for Baltimore last season. While Edwards certainly flourished alongside quarterback Lamar Jackson, Howard is the more proven player with three productive seasons under his belt. However, Edwards is under team control for a couple of more years Womens Hayden Hurst Jersey , and Howard is entering the final year of his rookie contract, meaning that the Ravens could be trading for a one year rental. With Ty Montgomery and Javorius ‘Buck’ Allen as pending free agents, Baltimore lacks a true pass-catching back on the roster. Unfortunately, Howard does not provide much in the passing game either. All in all, a trade for Howard could be tempting on the surface but ultimately would not make a ton of sense for the Ravens when they can simply take a running back in the upcoming draft. Free agency, which starts this Wednesday, also presents other options at the position. Those potential players include Le’Veon Bell Hayden Hurst Jersey White , Mark Ingram, Tevin Coleman, Jay Ajayi, Spencer Ware, Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Doug Martin https://www.theravenslockerroom.com/authentic-hayden-hurst-jersey , T.J. Yeldon, Latavius Murray and Carlos Hyde, who was recently cut from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Every NFL team should have a trade up scenario.ould the Carolina Panthers trade up to draft a pass rusher?New youth Luke Kuechly Jersey ,57commentsEvery NFL team should have a trade up scenario. Here’s one for the Panthers.EDTShare this storyShare this on FacebookShare this on TwitterShareAll sharing optionsShareAll sharing options for:Should the Carolina Panthers trade up to draft a pass rusher?TwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailPhoto by Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesA week ago I would have said there are potentially two positions the Panthers would consider trading up to fill in the 2019 draft: left tackle and edge rusher. With the re-signing of offensive tackle Daryl Williams and the release of Matt Kalil it appears the Panthers are comfortable at the tackle position. That may not be a correct assumption but I’m going to assume it is for the trade up scenarios I’m about to postulate. So who would be a Panthers trading partner in a trade up? Well the Panthers favorite partner these last couple of seasons, the Buffalo Bills, are sitting seven spots ahead of the Panthers. To move from No. 16 to No. 9 would cost a second round pick. So let’s say the plan is to trade next year’s second rounder (it could be No. 64) to move up into the top ten as the first scenario. In my second round scenario the Panthers use the same pick to move up in the second round. First round trade up scenarioSo what edge rushers would be worth the price for the Panthers to trade up with the Bills to the No. 9 spot? Let’s name a couple easy ones first. Nick Bosa and Josh Allen seem obvious to me. There is no chance Bosa goes lower than third or that time Allen gets past the Buccaneers at No. 5 overall. So that leaves these four players as possibilities, Montez Sweat, Rashan Gary Stitched Luke Kuechly Jersey , Clelin Ferrell and Brian Burns. All three players are being pegged as top-15 players and not expected to slip to the No. 16 spot. I’ve already discussed my preference for Sweat at No. 16 before he blew up the combine. As far as Gary, even if the Panthers think he is worth the price he would still be a bit of a project as Billy Marshall points out in his profile on Gary:That leaves Brian Burns and Clelin Ferrell, two contrasting players. Burns brings the speed and bend to the edge while Ferrell is more about power. Rivera could find either very useful in his 2019 defense. Yet my problem with a trade up is either could also be available at number sixteen. My final thoughts on a trade up for an edge rusher in the first are that Bosa and Allen are no brainers and three (Burns, Ferrell and Gary) of the other four, though likely to be drafted before No. 16 Youth Bruce Irvin Jersey , the Panthers should not jump up to draft them. Montez Sweat on the other hand would be worth the price. Of course there are a couple of other defensive players the Panthers could instead target in a first round trade up. There is no way Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams lasts to No. 9 but he would be well worth the price. Another possibility is linebacker Devin White from LSU. We know how Rivera covets linebackers and he has a spot open for a new starter in his 4-3 alignments. Rivera also needs a linebacker to play next to Luke Kuechly in 3-4 packages, something White could play as well:If White’s only weakness is reading defenses well who better to teach him that than Luke Kuechly? Don’t overlook this scenario, the Panthers have made much more surprising moves in the past. For you skeptics though I also see a first round trade up as an unlikely scenario and not one I advocate either. I have always preferred to not trade up or down and just use my given picks wisely. But sometimes players you never think will be there come into reach and so teams have learned to be prepared for the unexpected. I’m sure every general manager has a player they decided to not trade up for that they regret in hindsight.Likewise there are examples where teams pulled traded up with that seemed like a stiff price at first but was quickly forgotten once the player performed at an elite level. Julio Jones is an example that comes to mind. The Falcons gave up five draft picks to jump from No. 27 to No. 6. It seemed steep at the time but it’s hard to say he hasn’t been worth it. Let me wind down by saying I’m not ruling out a trade up for a left tackle in the first round in spite of the Daryl Williams signing. There are a couple worth the price and when combined with my potential second round trade up scenario could result in the Panthers landing both a starting tackle and a coveted edge rusher. By trading both their 2019 and 2020 picks the Panthers can get back into the final third of the first round. Check back tomorrow for more thoughts on a second round trade up scenario. No arrests were made following the incident.Watch the video below to see what happened...This definitely isn’t a good look for Taylor Hearn or the Panthers organization as a whole. Hearn is currently Trai Turner’s backup at right guard, but he did play in four games this past season. Based on the performance of the Panthers’ offensive line last year, there’s a good chance that Hearn isn’t a starter in this league. If he barely touched the field while the starters were struggling to protect Cam Newton Youth Graham Gano Jersey , what does that say about Hearn? This video might be his last straw with the Panthers organization His recent antics may place his football career in jeopardy, especially since he isn’t what you would call a “premier” lineman in the NFL. It appears that the offensive line is already experiencing some upgrades with the return and re-signing of Daryl Williams and the recent free agency signing of Matt Paradis, so it will be interesting to see what happens to Hearn. What do you think, Panthers fans?
