30-23, on Sunday to improve to 7-1 on the Daniel Sorensen Color Rush Jersey season. Here are the winners and losers from Sunday’s game:WinnersPhoto by Jamie Squire/Getty ImagesI believe it is already safe to call Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes elite, and though I realize that is still a subjective take, an objective fact is that Mahomes is officially among elite company after his four touchdowns Sunday make it 26 total on the season. Per NFL Research, four players in history have 26 touchdowns or more through the first eight games of the season: Mahomes, Tom Brady (30, 2007) and Peyton Manning (29, 2013; 26, 2004). Mahomes was 24 of 34 for 303 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception Sunday against the Broncos.Wide receiver Sammy Watkins had his best game since joining the Kansas City Chiefs, catching eight passes on nine targets for 107 yards and two touchdowns. It was the fifth multi-touchdown game of Watkins’ career and his first since Week 3 of 2017 as a Los Angeles Ram.Photo by Peter Aiken/Getty ImagesTight end Travis Kelce overcame some early drops, including one that would have been for a touchdown, to catch six passes for 79 yards and a touchdown on Sunday against the Broncos. It was a Kelce’s fourth touchdown of the season. Kelce has recorded at least one reception in 71 straight games, per the Chiefs’ public relations staff.Running back Kareem Hunt is making his case to be included in the conversation for the league’s top running back. He may not have the stats of the Rams’ Todd Gurley, but the elusiveness he showcased again on Sunday is special. Hunt had 16 carries for 50 yards and five catches for 36 yards and a touchdown on the day. Hunt quietly has 10 total touchdowns (five rushing, five receiving) on the season. Similar to referees Kendall Fuller Color Rush Jersey , it is usually a good sign when you don’t particularly notice offensive linemen—and I didn’t recall noticing any miscues with Austin Reiter, the third-string center making his second career start on Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Another OL note—outside linebacker Von Miller recorded a half-sack Sunday, and former Chief Geoff Schwartz tweeted “Damn ... only took almost five games for Miller to beat Mitch.” The job Mitch Schwartz has consistently done against Miller, one of the best pass rushers in the game, always deserves a spot in the winners’ section.Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty ImagesThe Chiefs defense wasn’t all pretty—the unit gave up 411 yards on Sunday—but the unit had some bright spots. Outside linebacker Dee Ford came into the game with a share of the league lead (36) for hurries, and he reached quarterback Case Keenum on three separate occasions Sunday. On two of the sacks, Ford forced a fumble. Ford now has a team-leading 8.0 sacks on the season.Rookie outside linebacker Breeland Speaks also recorded a sack, as did defensive lineman Chris Jones. Speaks and Jones officially tallied two quarterback hits apiece. Kendall Fuller had an interception on a flea-flicker attempt. The Broncos’ two-headed running back monster of Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker gave the Chiefs run defense problems all game long. Led by Lindsay’s 95 yards, the two combined for 27 carries for 173 yards and a touchdown in the game. LosersMark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsBroncos defensive end Derek Wolfe, per The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala: “They beat us by a total of 10 points. I’m tired of losing, especially in Kansas City. I really hate Kansas City. really hate it. I don’t like coming here. I don’t like anything about them except for Travis (Kelce). Travis is the only one I like over there.” Yikes. The Chiefs’ discipline, when it came to taking penalties, was not on display at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. The Chiefs totaled seven penalties for 50 yards, including four false start penalties (at home). Chris Conley had two false start penalties and right guard Andrew Wylie had one on a crucial fourth-and-goal at the 1. The Wylie penalty may have cost the Chiefs three points. Penalties may not have cost the Chiefs the game against the Broncos, but the Chiefs will need to be more disciplined to beat better teams in the league—such as the Los Angeles Rams or New England Patriots.Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY SportsChiefs safety Ron Parker struggled in the first half—giving up a big play to Emmanuel Sanders. He and Orlando Scandrick also gave up a 24-yard touchdown to some guy named Tim Patrick. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs make a move to beef of the secondary before the Tuesday trade deadline.I unfortunately don’t think that Vance Joseph will be the head coach of the Denver Broncos the next time the Chiefs see them. Joseph is now 0-4 against Kansas City and 8-16 overall asDenver’s head coach.Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY SportsSimilarly, I’m not sure Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas https://www.thechiefsfanshop.com/Anthony-Hitchens-Jersey , who had just three catches on seven targets for 30 yards Sunday—makes it through the trade deadline. Thomas is a shadow of his former self and appears to be in need of a change of scenery. The other side of Ford’s monster day is that of Broncos left tackle Garrett Boles, who didn’t look like he belonged on the same field as Ford. On the other side of the ball, cornerback Bradley Roby was hardly capable of guarding Watkins. The Broncos mentality has been broken by the Chiefs. Denver cornerback Chris Harris Jr. called this a game with season-changing potential prior to Sunday. Here was his quote after the game: “This was one of the hardest losses that I have ever had in the regular season. You fight so hard and do whatever you can to win and it’s really upsetting.” And the crazy thing is the Chiefs didn’t even play all that well. Great teams find a way to win and that’s what the Chiefs are.Safety Eric Berry didn’t suit up for Chiefs-Broncos, meaning he officially missed the first half of the season and should have been on injured reserve instead of taking up a roster spot. FINAL: CHIEFS 45, BENGALS 10Fourth quarter Injury update, Cincinnati: Mahomes stays on the field for the next drive with about 9 minutes remaining. On the first play, Mahomes finds Watkins for 11 yards then Tyreek Hill for 6. Spencer Ware then weaves in and out of the Bengals offense, carrying the ball 34 yards to put the Chiefs within close range. The drive ends with Andy Reid going for goal on fourth down, but no result. Chad Henne appears to be warming up, but no changes have been made — yet. Steven Nelson breaks up a pass from Dalton intended for A.J. Greene on the first play of the Bengal’s drive with 12:50 remaining in the game. Chiefs continue the drive. Kelce picks up 20 yards and then Kareem Hunt rushes for 16. Back-to-back Unnecessary Roughness calls on Cincinnati put Chiefs 1st & goal at the Bengal’s 3. Mahomes finds Tyreek Hill for a 3 yard touchdown — his first of the night. Chiefs lead 45-10. Third quarterAnother broken record for Patrick Mahomes tonight. He’s over 300 yards passing tonight for the sixth consecutive game, extending the franchise record for consecutive 300+ games. He’s the first QB to do this since Andrew Luck in 2014. On the second play of the Cheifs’ next drive, Mahomes is intercepted by Shawn Williams on a pass intended for Tyreek Hill. Chiefs defense remains solid and Dorian O’Daniel breaks up back-to-back plays before Chris Jones comes up big sacks Andy Dalton. Cincinnati’s last possession is a punt, which is returned by Tyreek Hill for 10 yards. The Bengals have no luck in the end zone after Andy Dalton overthrows (1st & 10) then can’t connect on a pass to Alex Erickson. The drive ends with a field goal that’s good from Randy Bullock to cut the deficit. Chiefs still lead 38-10. A look on Parker’s Pick: The Chiefs waste no time at all getting another after Ron Parker intercepts a pass by Andy Dalton, that was intended for A.J. Greene, running it to the end zone for a 33 yard TOUCHDOWN — the frist of his career. Chiefs lead 38-7.Mahomes opens up the first drive of the second half strong with a 50 yard pass to Sammy Watkins and ends with a hat trick for Kareem Hunt after he scores a 2 yard TD to help lift the Chiefs 31-7. HALFTIME: CHIEFS 24, BENGALS 7Second quarterThe Bengals punt the ball after just 3 plays in their final full drive of the half. Kansas City’s offense take the field again and Mahomes starts off strong by finding Kelce on back-to-back plays for 13 yards each time. On the next play Chad Henne Jersey , Mahomes scrambles for 23 yards and then comes up big with a 22 yard pass to Spencer Ware at the Bengal’s 9. Two incomplete passes end the drive with a field goal attempt by Harrison Butker that’s good. Chiefs extend the lead 24-7. Mahomes finds Hunt then Watkins for a combined 17 yards and then, sees an opportunity and puts his arm strength on full display in quick 10 yard pass to Spencer Ware at half field. Mahomes then connects with Hill then Hunt 19 yards and then scrambles up the field for 10 yards of his own to put the Chiefs at the Bengal’s 21. Mahomes gets sacked with 2:28 remaining in the quarter, but a Neutral Zone Infraction is called on Bengal’s Carlos Dunlap. Next play, Chiefs get the touchdown after Mahomes finds Demetrius Harris deep for a 17 yard touchdown pass. Chiefs lead 21-7.Injury update:Bengals start at their 3 after Butker kicks 62 yards. Andy Dalton throws incomplete to Mason Schreck, but KC’s Orlando Scandrick picks up a defensive holding penalty on the play. Kansas City then picks up another one for Defensive Too Many Men on Field, which is enforced at the Bengal’s 28. After Cincinnati’s Clint Boling is called for an Illegal Block Above the Waist, the Bengal’s start making their way down towards the end zone. A huge 31 yard pass from Andy Dalton finds A.J. Greene at the KC 4 and puts them in position to get their first touchdown of the game, which comes from C.J. Uzomah. Chiefs lead 14-7.Chiefs TOUCHDOWN: Offense starts at the Bengal’s 33 and quickly make their way to the end zone. Tyreek Hill gets Kansas City close with a 16 yard gain after getting on the end of a pass from Mahomes. Then, Kareem Hunt does it again for the Chiefs and connects with Mahomes for the touchdown. Chiefs lead 14-0Bengals pick up a quick false start penalty to open the quarter. On the next play, Breeland Speaks comes up big and forces an incomplete pass. Bengals fumble on the punt and Chiefs offense takes the field.First quarterChiefs start at their 23 and Mahomes finds TE Travis Kelce for a huge 43 yard gain. Then Mahomes finds Sammy Watkins who appears to catch the ball, but after a play review, it’s called incomplete. Chiefs end the drive by going for a field goal, which Butker barely misses — his first miss of the season.Harrison Butker kicks to the Bengal’s 1 and Cincinnati gains 11 yards before getting a false start penalty called and enforced at their 20. They don’t make it far before Dee Ford comes up big for the Chiefs with a sack on Bengal’s QB Andy Dalton on third down, forcing him to fumble. Chiefs offense takes the field despite Bengal’s recovery and get it back on a punt. Hunt HopsKansas City starts at their own five and Mahomes connects on a short pass to Tyreek Hill for 27 yards to get the Chiefs off to a strong start. On his next two, Mahomses finds Demarcus Robinson for 9 yards then Kareem Hunt back-to-back for a combined 21 yards. Mahomes then overthrows to the end zone on first down, but Chiefs recover on the next play and Kareem Hunt shows he has the hops Sammy Watkins Color Rush Jersey , making a human hurdle out of a Bengals defender and picking up 21 yards in the process after avoiding a tackle. Mahomes then finds Hunt again on 1st-and-goal for a close range TOUCHDOWN. Chiefs lead, 7-0.Chiefs win the toss and, as they’ve done every game this season, they defer to the secondary. Defense comes out strong, quickly forcing a three and out.
