The Winnipeg Jets will be looking to continue their mastery of Atlantic Division opponents Tuesday when they play the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.
The Jets Rams John Kelly Jersey , who clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs March 25, are 9-3-3 against the Atlantic Division this season after their 6-5 win over the Ottawa Senators on Monday at Canadian Tire Centre.
Winnipeg has won eight straight games against the Atlantic Division and is riding a 10-game point streak (8-0-2) that dates to Dec. 7.
The Jets (49-20-10) will close out a four-game road trip against the Canadiens before returning home to complete their regular-season schedule against the Calgary Flames (Thursday) and the Chicago Blackhawks (Saturday).
Winnipeg captain Blake Wheeler, who had two goals against Ottawa, leads the Jets with 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) in 31 games against the Eastern Conference this season.
The Jets will be looking to clean up a messy performance against the Senators that saw them lead 3-0 before the game was 12 minutes old only to see the Senators keep clawing back into the game.
The Senators took advantage of a six-on-three advantage (they pulled goaltender Craig Anderson for another attacker) to get a power-play goal from Matt Duchene with 1:05 left in the third to make it 6-5.
“A six-on-three, that’s the first one I’ve seen in the NHL,” Wheeler said. “That’s obviously difficult. Luckily, we had a two-goal lead.”
Winnipeg forward Andrew Copp chipped in a goal and an assist and said hanging on for the win will help the Jets down the stretch.
“It was a good start for us, but we probably didn’t stay on it as much as we wanted to,” Copp said. “We didn’t stay as engaged as we needed to. It was kind of a ping-pong game almost, not a lot of clean plays made Joe Namath Jets Jersey , a lot of sloppiness, but it was huge that we can find a way to win those games, too.”
The Canadiens are closing the home portion of their 2017-18 schedule and go into the game against the Jets with an 18-14-8 record at Bell Centre.
If Canadiens goaltender Carey Price gets the start, he will set a franchise record by playing in his 557th game. Price tied legend Jacques Plante in Montreal’s 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday with 556 appearances in the Canadiens’ legendary red, white and blue sweater.
“I’m a little disappointed with the loss, but I’m definitely proud of reaching that level,” Price told the Montreal Gazette. “It’s a legendary name and to be spoken of in the same breath is pretty cool.”
“It’s quite a feat,” Canadiens coach Claude Julien told The Gazette. “He’s been here for a long time and played a lot of games, and I think the players were extremely proud and probably disappointed we couldn’t win that important game for him. Nonetheless, they gave their best.”
One of the bright spots in this lost season for the Canadiens has been the play of rookie defenseman Noah Juulsen, who will play his 21st NHL game against the Jets.
Juulsen Harold Landry Color Rush Jersey , who turned 21 Monday, was the No. 26 pick in the 2015 draft. The stay-at-home defenseman has topped 20 minutes in ice time in two of his past three games, including 20:22 against the Devils with 6:28 on the penalty kill.
“At this time of year, we’re looking to evaluate more than we’re looking necessarily to win the game,” Julien said. “We want our guys to benefit from that. (Juulsen’s) doing a good job at that. We have a lot of young guys who are gaining some valuable experience from this tough stretch we’re going through. It’s going to pay off down the road.”
Taylor Lewan answered the biggest question for the Tennessee Titans heading into training camp by showing up for work along with the rest of his teammates.
How long it takes to get a new contract for the two-time Pro Bowl left tackle remains to be seen.
General manager Jon Robinson said they're making good progress, even if he isn't ready to say when that might be wrapped up.
"It's good to have him back," Robinson said Wednesday after the Titans reported for camp. "I know that our coaches are excited to work with him and had really good discussions over the last 24 hours with his representation and nothing's finalized. But I would say we're certainly headed in the right direction."
Robinson said contract talks had been going on the past couple days and ramped up Tuesday night.
"I'd say we've made really good progress and that's about all I can really comment on that for now," Robinson said.
With the Titans firing Mike Mularkey in January after the franchise's first playoff victory in 14 years, Lewan took part in the team's voluntary offseason program with new coach Mike Vrabel . Then Lewan skipped the mandatory minicamp in June over a lack of progress in contract talks.
The left tackle is due $9.34 million this season after Tennessee picked up the fifth-year option for the 11th selection overall out of Michigan in the 2014 draft. He has started 53 of 58 games, including every game the past two seasons, protecting quarterback Marcus Mariota's back. Lewan Authentic Troy Niklas Jersey , who turned 27 last weekend, is younger than Nate Solder who became the league's highest-paid offensive lineman in March with a four-year, $62 million deal from the New York Giants.
Lewan and the rest of the Titans showed up on Wednesday for the start of training camp, joining quarterbacks, rookies and injured players who started last weekend.
The left tackle was not among the handful of players made available to reporters Wednesday. Veteran linebacker Brian Orakpo, going into the final season of his contract, was glad Lewan reported since that means both sides must be talking again.
"I know what he brings to the table, so hopefully I mean stuff can get done and we can play ball and move forward," Orakpo said. "Nobody really wants to be worried about contract situations when we're trying to be you know coming together as a team. And they understand that, Taylor understands this so hopefully get it done sooner than later."
The Titans already are without right tackle Jack Conklin, who was placed on the physically unable to perform list last weekend. Conklin tore his left ACL in the Titans' divisional playoff loss to New England Phillip Gaines Jersey Elite , and Vrabel had no timetable for Conklin's return.
Vrabel said Lewan is in great shape along with the rest of the offensive line. Center Ben Jones said it was good to have everybody in and ready to work, a credit to Lewan's work ethic.
"We're a band of brothers," Jones said. "We want us all out there at all times and that's all we do is go out there and grind every day. Taylor's the lead guy he's a guy we can put our hat on. You know he's going to work hard every day."
Vrabel said all the Titans passed the running test, but veteran wide receiver Rishard Matthews still is being evaluated. Matthews was sidelined during the offseason program with an unspecified injury.
"When he's ready, he'll be out there," Vrabel said.
NOTES: Robinson said he met Tuesday with Kevin Dodd before the Titans released the outside linebacker. Dodd was the 33rd selection overall out of Clemson in 2016 and the second player Robinson drafted in his first year as general manager. "I take full responsibility for that one. I've got to do a better job scouting moving forward," Robinson said. The move leaves the Titans at 89 players, and Robinson said they are looking to fill that spot.
